lipo-dissolve

Lipo-Dissolve

well im back to write another rant, this one targeted at a new procedure that, for a mere 375-1500$ per treatment (up to six treatments are required for satisfactory results) promises to elimate cellulite for ever.

it's name is "Lipo-Dissolve"...here's the gist of it;

Lipo-dissolve is being marketed as an innovative alternative to lipsuction that involves a simple series of medicated injections which dissolve unwanted small localized areas of fat. Fat-related problems that proponents of lipo-dissolve claim can be treated include:
upper and lower abdomen
thighs
upper arms
saddlebags
fat pads under the eyes or chin
cellulite
stretch marks
scars
residual fat deposits post-liposuction
The ingredients used in lipo-dissolve may vary depending on the doctor and the area being treated. The ingredients may include cholphosphatidyline, multivitamins, alpha lipid acid, enzymes, and plant extracts. Ingredients may also include chemical agents such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, antibiotics, and hormones.
During lipo-dissolve, the medication is injected into the fat layers and connective tissue. The injection is relatively painless, with no need for anesthesia. The medication produces a chemical reaction in conjunction with the body's physiology to dissolve localized areas of fat.
Benefits from each injection should be evident within three weeks of the treatment. Several treatments, four to six weeks apart, are often required to produce a fully satisfactory result.

lets start with the basics....ingredients that may be present;
Phosphatidylcholine~ found in soy lecithin. It can be taken as dietary lecithin or as a supplement for high cholesterol, atherosclerosis (fat deposits on arteries), high blood pressure, liver problems, bipolar depression, dementia, dyskinesias (difficulty making movements), gallbladder disease, headache, and multiple sclerosis. It is used on the skin for acne and psoriasis.
fatty deposits in arteries consist of cholesterol, fatty acids, neutral fats, etc., as well as calcium and other minerals. cellulite consists of excess fats bound to waste materials.although these are both examples of fat deposits, they are quite different from each other. can phosphatidylcholine really have the same effect (when administered differently) on both?

Alpha lipid acids~try finding the exact ingredients in the product. an "exclusive" product formulated by "new image" research scientists that claims to;
helps the destruction of unwanted bacteria in the gut, improve brain and liver function, helps prevent memory loss and lessons the symptoms of depression.
i see no references to fat loss here.

Enzymes and plant extracts~very smart to list these as "possible" ingredients, there are numerous categories for both....very specific, yet extremely vague.

NSAIDS (non steroidal anti-imflammatory drugs)~NSAIDs work by preventing an enzyme (a protein that triggers changes in the body) from doing its job. The enzyme is called cyclooxygenase, or COX, and it has two forms. COX-1 protects the stomach lining from harsh acids and digestive chemicals. It also helps maintain kidney function. COX-2 is produced when joints are injured or inflamed.
*if this product "may" have enzymes in it, i hope their not the ones that are blocked by NSAIDS, kinda defeats the purpose of having them. although, NSAIDS would assist in any inflammation at injection sites.

Antibiotics~A substance, such as penicillin or streptomycin, produced by or derived from certain fungi, bacteria, and other organisms, that can destroy or inhibit the growth of other microorganisms. Antibiotics are widely used in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.
*i see no point in a product for cellulite removal to contain antibiotics, unless as a precaution to possible infection.

Hormones~again.....WHAT HORMONES!!!!

now the definition of "cellulite"
~In layman’s language cellulite is nothing but fat cells being trapped by fibers that have formed a network. These fibers are constantly cleansed by body fluids and poor circulation retards this cleansing process. The result is disastrous. Waste materials accumulate; they slowly thicken and become hard pockets of immovable fat.
Grade 1
No clinical symptoms, but histopathology detects underlying anatomical changes
Grade 2
The skin shows pallor, lower temperature, and decreased elasticity after compression or muscular contraction. There is no visible "orange peel" roughness to the skin. Additional anatomical changes are detected by histopathology.

Grade 3
Visible "orange peel" roughness to the skin is visible at rest. This is the "canonical" grade of cellulite. Thin granulations in the deep levels of the skin can be detected by palpitation. All Grade 2 signs are present, with further anatomical changes are detectable by histopathology.

Grade 4
All Grade 3 symptoms are present, with more visible, palpable, and painful lumps present which adhere to deep structures in the skin. The skin has a noticeable dimpled, wavy appearance. Additional histopathologic changes are detected.

Therapy
Numerous therapies have been tried. There are no published reports in the scientific literature showing that any of these therapies work.
The most beneficial therapy is to control lifestyle factors. Controlling stress and anxiety are of considerable benefit.

lets review a few "therapy" options...

Liposuction~Nope, sorry .... This technique of extracting fat by vacuuming it from under the skin is not effective for cellulite. In fact, liposuction may worsen the appearance of the skin by sucking out the cushion of fat that resides just under the skin. The result is additional dimpling of the skin.
Some doctors claim to be able to "break up" fat under the skin by using thin rods, but this technique is not accepted or established within the plastic surgery community and it may be associated with a worsened appearance or scarring.
Dietary supplements~ Several of these products have been marketed and contain a variety of ingredients such as ginkgo biloba, sweet clover, grape seed bioflavinoids, bladderwrack extract, oil of evening primrose, fish oil, and soy lecithin. These preparations claim to have positive effects on the body such as boosting metabolism, improving circulation, protecting against cell damage, and breaking down fats. Such claims are difficult to evaluate as is the case with similar assertions made on behalf of many supplements and alternative therapies. Concepts such as "metabolism," "circulation," or "cell damage" cannot be easily measured on an objective basis to determine whether or not any improvement has been achieved. Additionally, because these products are sold as dietary supplements and not as drugs, they are not subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. They are therefore exempt from meeting the scientific standards for both safety and effectiveness that are applied to drugs.
Furthermore, there are no valid clinical studies to support the use of these dietary supplements for the treatment of cellulite. Studies that have been conducted have not demonstrated any value of these supplements.
For example, one product containing a mixture of herbs marketed as a "cure" for cellulite was tested to see whether it had any effect on cellulite, body weight, fat content, or the circumference of the thighs and hips. No beneficial changes were found when results of those taking the dietary supplement were compared to those taking the placebo (sugar pill). The only significant changes were an increase in cellulite and body weight in the majority of women who took the "miracle cure" product.
Some dietary supplements that are promoted for the treatment of cellulite may also pose some risk. One popular cellulite product, for instance, contains iodine, which may be harmful to patients with thyroid and certain other conditions. Other preparations may interact with certain prescription drugs.

Massage Treatments~In the past few years, several machines have been introduced that massage the areas affected by cellulite. These machines use rolling cylinders to gather areas of skin and massage them inside a chamber. Again, no scientific studies are available to demonstrate the effectiveness of this treatment, which appears to redistribute fat rather than permanently alter its configuration under the skin.

one last note; cellulite IS hereditary (not to say that it is caused exclusively from hereditary factors) therefore, even if it's removed, it CAN return....

just another "miracle" treatment designed to promise a "quick fix" solution to a problem there is no "quick fix" for....be aware...do your homework!

Not just desperation but laziness and overall stupidity as well. It's funny but we have these bodies that we live in all our lives and yet most people know more about their computers/cell phones/DVD players etc than just the basics of how to look after these bodies.
