Insomnia ruining workouts

Hey guys.

I always seem to wake up at least 15 times a night. Especially in the spring.
I am finding that this year I am not having nearly enough energy to workout and still get some actual work done during the day.

Anybody have the same problem?
Does anyone have any suggestions other than-
going to bed at the same time every night.
Keeping the room pitch black.
5-htp
melatonin.
tryptophan.

Caffiene and Ephe helps, but I usually get to a point mid-week, where all the stims in the world cant keep me going.

Tired all the time, never can stay asleep

welcome to my world....im ALWAYS tired, sometimes i run on 3-4 hours sleep a nite, do a 2 hour workout and a 9 hour work day (my job is very physically demanding) basically, i suck it up. i don't use any sleep aids and use ephedrine/caffeine stacks during the day. i try to get a nap here and there between work and training.

melatonin is basically used for jet lag, it's not meant for long term use. tryptophan is a precursor to serotonin, melatonin and niacin. your body converts it into serotonin then into melatonin....maybe you are getting too much melatonin? many anti-anxiety drugs cause and adverse effect when too many are consumed and they end up causing anxiety instead of helping it.

You might want to go to a doctor. There could be several explinations from the physical (adrenal fatigue etc) to the mental (anxiety/ depression).

I don't know what your day consists of, but I have to deal with a lot being self employed and under the age of 30. I catch myself lying in bed for hours thinking about everything that has happened or going to happen. I started taking a product that has Valerian Root in it about 30 minutes before I go to bed. This does not knock me out but puts me in a relaxed state so that it is easier to go to sleep and stay there! With some research I have done, it is not good for your body to not get enough sleep because your body goes through a healing process while asleep. If your body is not going through this process, then it will definately carry over to your workouts! I hope this helps.

It's also possible that the stimulants you're using for your workouts are hampering the quality your sleep, even if you feel tired--it happens to me with too much caffeine.

Is there really such a thing as to much caffeine?

I have tried going for weeks without caffeine, I dont think it really affects me either way.
Skinny, I am self-employed as well, and I know where you are coming from.

I think I will give that stuff a try.

I bought a very expensive mattress last year, hoping it would help. It really did not do much for me at all.

I know I'm the new guy around here but I also have cronic Insomnia. I min. I start to speed up my metabolism I'm awake for days. Melatonin, Valerian root, St. Johns wart are all otc jokes. The only real way to combat the problem is with ambien or other script type drugs.

Nytol knocks me out but you can get hooked on it and you feel groggy if you don't get enough sleep after taking it. Taking one at midnight to fall asleep then getting called into work at 0430 sucks.
Melatonin helps me fall asleep with 5mg but I wake up a couple hours too early feeling fully rested then have a hard time falling asleep after.
If you take a lot of stims try and stop taking them by early evening. Worrying about anything can stop anyone from sleeping, try to stop your negative thoughts before they pop up. Hope you find the answer to your problem, anyway it's 2230 time for 50mg Nytol lol.

not pushing a product but...

try BIG from CMI

Its a pre bedtime formula with creatine, fulvic acid, 5htp and melatonin.

It really works. takes the edge of stimulants and will help you sleep for sure

Cool soft head

When I take Nytol I wake up with a weird stoned feeling. I have been using SleepMD, from Shoppers or GNC with success. Wake up feeling rested.
