4 or 5 days a week, I prefer 4 times a week when training clean and 5 a week when on cycle, also when on cycle I also like to hit one bodypart an extra time each week (ie: last week I did an extra back workout, week before an extra leg workout, next week arms)......I don't think I'd be able to exceed training 5 days a week, well maybe if I didn't have a job, but even so I think I would get burnt out and over trained pretty quickly @ 6 days a week

I train 6 days a week On or Off cycle with Very High Volume and with high reps. I love to be in the gym working out so I dont mind training six days. I do 5 full 1 hr 15 min- 1hr 30 workouts and like ps i have one workout which focuses on weakpoints (Hamstrings) for me and that takes me like 45-50 mins. So i do 5 and 1/2 days lol ...back in the day guys like arnold would do 2 workouts a day six days a week and each workout was 2 hours long so 6 days a week isnt really overtraining. Alotta Pros still do 2 a days so its harder to overtrain than alotta people think IMO

In fact way back in the day I made my greatest gains in one years time by following the double split approach and eating a high quality/high cal diet and getting lots of rest. IMO over training is due to under eating and under sleeping plain and simple. Unfortunately due to having to work and of course general household responsibilities etc I don't use this approach anymore but I still follow the high volume way of lifting. |

I prefer to train 5 days a week. I agree with the whole overtraining issue. I don't think I've ever gotten to the point of overtraining. I have gotten burnt out a few times but it was always a combination of stress from other things going on in my life. When that happens, a few days off with an extra cheat meal here and there with some sleep and I'm geared to go.

i do 1 body part / day train 5 to 6 days / week , like more volume vary the reps 8 to 15 to 20. i agree with ps and bmoc, less volume seems like less work equals less results also the volume thing seems better for long term ie if you want to do this in your 40s + your joints and tendons wont hold up on those so called high intensity routines.

I'm trying to follow BMOC's high volume 6 day routine these days...one more day of training then I'm used to but already feel my body adjusting to the extra workload.

5 days a week, 1 bodypart per day. I usually train legs Sunday, Chest on Monday, Back on Tuesday, Wednesday off, Shoulders on Thursday, and Arms on Friday. Abs are done on off days.
Since I'm an old guy, lol, I sometimes end up taking Tuesday off to recuperate and then do back on Wednesday, etc. I have really paid attention to what my body is telling me over the last 8 months and it is starting to pay off. I find if I'm not able to give 100% then I take the day off and rest. When I do, I'm much better the next day and that is worth it to me. I'm no longer concerned about getting my whole body completed in a week, if it takes longer, so be it. That way I can give it my all when I do workout! Strict form, proper technique, proper rest, proper diet, and I give 100% intensity and leave nothing in the gym! Can't risk injury at my age, takes too long to recuperate. Great forum here guys, keep up the great work. Thanks to ALL who have helped me since I joined. Coady |
